Paths and paving deal with foot traffic, weather and water throughout the year. If the ground underneath is poorly prepared, movement can eventually show at the surface.

Where a surface has moved or sunk, the condition of the base beneath it may need to be considered before the visible area is repaired.

Sunken paving
Localised settlement can leave paving uneven, create trip points and allow water to collect in low areas.

Poor drainage
Incorrect falls or changing ground levels can cause water to sit on a path or move towards areas where it is not wanted.

Loose or moving surfaces
Movement can sometimes indicate that the material beneath the finished surface needs attention rather than simply resetting the top layer.

Ground disturbed by other work
Drainage repairs, new pipework and excavation can require existing paths or paving to be opened and reinstated afterwards.
Connected groundwork
Paths often connect several parts of a property.
Footpaths and paving may meet entrances, driveways, garden rooms, boundaries or drainage channels. Planning these areas together can produce cleaner levels and transitions.
Where required, paving work can be coordinated with driveway and access work, drainage repairs and groundworks and excavation.

The sub-base, falls, edges and levels are prepared around the intended finished surface.
STEP 04
Lay & finish
The agreed path, paving or repaired area is completed and tied into the surrounding surfaces.
